PART 1:
Business English: Organic skills marinated in objectives served with vocabulary

Teaching tertiary or in-company? Preparing engaging lessons at business or vocational school? Using videos? On a diet that’s high in vocabulary? This ‘taster’ session on Business Partner looks at some of the challenges for Business English teachers and suggests a recipe for practising business vocabulary and skills, using video-based lessons and activities designed to engage learners and develop their professional skills. I will also refer to Professional Learning Objectives based on Pearson’s research into linguistic competencies for the workplace.

PART 2:

Meet your Business Partner

Our students need business-specialised language to enhance their employability and help them communicate effectively in the workplace. There is, therefore, more pressure on teachers to engage students with relevant business topics, videos, and other activities. Teaching Business English requires developing both business and ‘soft’ communication skills, together with functional language.

In this workshop we look at language and skills-based lessons using video and ‘business workshops’ (fictional case studies) in the new Business Partner series.
