Advanced Expert CAE

Troubleshooting for iTest CD on Mac OS X

There are some issues with the iTests in Advanced Expert CAE New Edition on Mac OS X 10.7 or newer.

To override the problems please follow the next few steps:  The DVD-Rom must be in your drive.

  1. Right click on your mouse to create a new folder on your Mac and copy the entire contents of the DVD to this folder.  You can do this by "drag and drop."
  2. Download the file pearson_education.zip to your Mac.
  3. In your Downloads folder you see the Pearson Education file. Copy this file to your folder created in step 1.
  4. You can start iTest (Pearson Education) from your folder.

Unfortunately there are some glitches in the iTest on the Mac.

  1. You can?t close the iTests as you normally do with Mac programs.  To close the iTests, press the key combination alt-cmd-esc. You will see the window Force Quit Applications. Select Pearson Education in the list and click on Force Quit.
  2. If you resize the iTest window, it may disappear. If this happens,  close the iTests as explained in step 1. Start the iTest again.

Gold First

Troubleshooting for ActiveBook on Mac OS X

There are some issues with ActiveBook from Gold First on Mac OS X 10.7 or newer.

To override the problems please follow the next few steps:  The DVD-Rom must be in your drive.

  1. Right click on your mouse to create a new folder on your Mac and copy the entire contents of the DVD to this folder.  You can do this by "drag and drop."
  2. Select the folder DATA in the folder you have created in the previous step then right click on the mouse and select the menu item Get Info.
  3. In the window DATA Info go to Sharing & Permissions: and change the Privilege in your name (Me) from Read only to Read & Write. Close the window.
  4. Download the two files tene-patch.zip (11MB) and tene-movie.zip (5MB) on your Mac.
  5. In your Downloads folder you see TENE-movie and the TENE-patch folder. Double click TENE-movie and copy all the files from the TENE-patch folder to your folder created in step 1 as it is shown in the video.
  6. You can start ActiveBook (START_OSX) from your folder.

This guide works for all levels from Gold First.

New Total English

Troubleshooting for ActiveBook on Mac OS X

There are some issues with ActiveTeach and ActiveBook from New Total English on Mac OS X 10.7 or newer.

To override the problems please follow the next few steps:  The DVD-Rom must be in your drive.

  1. Right click on your mouse to create a new folder on your Mac and copy the entire contents of the DVD to this folder.  You can do this by "drag and drop."
  2. Select the folder DATA in the folder you have created in the previous step then right click on the mouse and select the menu item Get Info.

Speakout

Troubleshooting for Speakout DVD on Mac OS X

There are some issues with ActiveTeach and ActiveBook from Speakout on Mac OS X 10.7 or newer.

To override the problems please follow the next few steps:  The DVD-Rom must be in your drive.

  1. Right click on your mouse to create a new folder on your Mac and copy the entire contents of the DVD to this folder.  You can do this by "drag and drop."
  2. Select the folder DATA in the folder you have created in the previous step then right click on the mouse and select the menu item Get Info.
  3. In the window DATA Info go to Sharing & Permissions: and change the Privilege in your name (Me) from Read only to Read & Write. Close the window.
  4. Download the files start_osx.dmg (12MB) to your Mac.
  5. In your Downloads folder you see the file start_osx.dmg. Double click this file. You see the window START_OSX. Copy the entire contents to your folder DATA created in step 1.
  6. You can start ActiveTeach or ActiveBook (START_OSX) from your folder.

This guide works for all levels from Speakout.
